WAGES OF SIN 9

EPISODE NINE

The break was over and everyone returned to his class. Everyone in David's class kept looking for the angle through which she would appear. They were eager to see the first person to approach the entrance; either David or Mr. Kingsley, the Agricultural Science teacher. A brief silence dived through the classroom as David walked into the class with little tears on her face. She walked silently to her seat and stood before Debby, her seat partner. Stretching forth Debby's small black book to her, she asked remorsefully with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, "can you please tell me more about the transformation of that Saul of Tarsus?"

*************************************************************

Debby looked rather embarrassed by David's sudden change and request. Everyone stared at her and was wondering what could make David of all people to be in tears. That was in fact the first day and probably would be the last that they would ever see her in tears. David had never cried since the day her colleagues knew her; since she started receiving lashes of cruel canes from cruel teachers for offences she ever had committed. Teachers would go on and keep beating her hoping she would cry and feel sorry for the wrong she had done but David would never drop a drizzle. Many times had her mates argued that someone like David wouldn't had cried at birth and must had kept the same stern face instead thereof.

Nevertheless, Debby could decipher that something strange had come upon David, and kept looking into her eyeballs. "Where have you been, David?" Debby asked curiously, planning to get the rest of the curious class an answer to her sudden disappearance. Debby asked but the other students looked much more interested in the answer she would give as all became attentive, curious and gave an undivided attention to her; a great focus. The classroom became so silent that even a strand of hair dropped must be heard.

"At the library" she replied.
"At the library?" Debby asked, surprisingly. "doing what?"
"Crying"
At this time the class was ready to listen more to the troublesome David who looked as if she had met with a divine being who used a divine hammer to break her rocky hear. If not, how could the first daughter of the Martins be in tears?
"Why crying?" Debby furthered, and the other students were much eager to listen. Audible footsteps could be heard from the balcony and it sounded like that of the new Agricultural Science teacher, Mr. Stanley. The students exchanged sad glances which suggested they were not in the mood to receive any teacher in their classroom.

Atom, the class captain stood up immediately to take sone actions. He went to cross the teacher at the entrance of the classroom. "This might not be the right time to be here sir" Atom said.
"Excuse me?"
"I mean I'm afraid you came at the wrong time."
"And what are you talking about?"
"Uhhmm, there's a new development in the class right now and we don't want to miss it out."
"What could this new development be?
"David Martins" Atom said, sternly.

Mr. Stanley stared at the students in the class to confirm they really didn't want his company at the time, and the look on their faces were loud enough for him to hear. Mr. Stanley held his loose books tight against his chest as he made his way back to the staff room.

He was about taking four more steps into the room when the principal intercepted him. "I thought you left the other time to take a class"
"Yes, but the students rejected me. It seems they were busy"
"Busy? What do you mean by busy? Did you give them a classwork?"
"No"
"So which teacher gave them classwork that they decided to use your period on it?"
"None"
"And what are they busy doing, if I may ask?
Mr. Stanley swallowed some saliva before replying. "they said a new development came up"
"What development could come up that would stop you from doing your work? Ughn? He asked, angrily. "Perhaps I should say you are even tired of your work."
Mr. Stanley quickly went on his kneels, knowing what the principal meant by his last statement."
"I'm sorry sir. Have mercy on me. The new development was David Martins."
"Ughn?" he exclaimed "David Martins?"
